Sonora Rally is the only Road to Dakar event in North America and due to the calendar, SR is the only event, with dunes, that is eligible for selection to the 2027 Dakar.
The Road to Dakar prize gives the winner of the SSV category a FREE ENTRY into Dakar 2027 and for the motorcycle entries, SR 2026 is an immediate “qualifying rally” and worth 6 points toward acceptance into Dakar 2027.

ELIGIBILITY
The riders are eligible to participate in the Road to Dakar if:
- Participate in the race: Sonora Rally
- Hold a driving license covering them for the category they want to enter
- Have never taken part in the Dakar in any category
- Have never been classified in the top 10 of a FIM championship in any discipline and in any age category
- Have never been part of the FIA priority list (Car/SSV)
- Have never been part of the ASO Elite/priority list (Bike, Car/SSV or Truck)
- Have never been winner of the Road to Dakar in the past (only the driver is concerned for the car category)
- Rider / Driver must NOT be part of an official team
